What to expect when you call a
surgeon's office

Any good surgeon should be willing to spend the time to find out exactly what your goals are. They should also provide you with any information you might need before and after surgery. In general, a surgeon and his or her staff should:

  • Be courteous
  • Be knowledgeable
  • Take time to explain things to you
  • Tell you everything you need to know
  • Avoid glossing over details

Finding the surgeon that's right for you

When picking a surgeon, it's important to take your time. One of the best ways to see if a surgeon is right for you is to find out as much as possible prior to your appointment. To get you started, use the simple checklist below. Be sure to print it out, so that you can refer back to it when calling a surgeon's office or during an initial appointment.

Surgeon checklist

  1. Make sure your surgeon is board-certified and, if so, by which board.
  2. Depending on your needs, find out if your surgeon specializes in breast augmentation and/or reconstruction.
  3. Request as much information as possible about breast augmentation/reconstruction.
  4. Ask to see your surgeon's before and after photographs.
  5. Talk to your surgeon's previous breast implant patients if possible, to learn about their experiences.
  6. Find out how long your surgeon has been in practice, and how many breast implant surgeries he or she performs a year.
  7. Find out if your surgeon limits his or her practice to just plastic or cosmetic surgery.
  8. Ask where your surgeon has hospital privileges.
  9. Discuss the overall cost of augmentation/reconstruction.
  10. Find out if your surgeon attended the ALLERGAN ACADEMY™ and if he or she completed the certification program for silicone-filled breast implants.
